#20 Tartu - Great Example of a Sustainable City

Kaspar Alev is a climate specialist in the Tartu City. Tartu is one of the greenest cities around the world and particularly in Estonia. European Union has the mission to create 100 climate neutral cities by the end of year 2030 and Tartu was chosen to be one of those cities that is gonna be included in the mission.

We discussed about public transportation system, energy efficiency, reducing consumption and purchasing behavior.

#53 Solaride - the First Solar Car in the Baltics

SolarButterfly interviewed Mart Erik Kermes, head of engineering at Solaride, on the 67th day of the Climate Pioneer World Tour, in Tartu, Estonia. Solaride is the first solar car in the Baltics. The team of students finished building it in 2021, bachelor and high school students worked on it, and they do not have one specific university, they have 5 partner unis from Estonia and some additional schools.

The top speed of the car is 98km/h, it can go up to 650 km with a full battery and 150km more if its very sunny.

#52 Forward-Thinking Start-Up for Clean Technologies

SolarButterfly interviewed Auste Pranckute, the CEO of Stuart Energy, a start-up for clean technologies. The team met her in Vilnius on the 64th day of the Climate Pioneer World Tour.

Stuart is developing hardware and software solutions for EV charging. The start-up is enabling forward-thinking technology and charging services.They are thinking about many things, such as consumption, over voltage, etc, and they found out some solutions how to balance the movement of energy the best. They always come up with smart solutions, for example checking for prices, when those go up you charge less and when they go down you charge more.

#51 Solar on car and bus roofs - it's obvious!

SolarButterfly interviewed Robert Haendel, the CEO of OPES in Berlin, who talked about a very interesting solar solution that they do, integrating solar in vehicles. They were the ones who also prepared the panels to the SolarButterfly, made of recycled ocean plastic. They are ultralight and very efficient. He talked about the possibility of covering all the new cars, trucks and buses with solar and how much energy that could save potentially. The impact can be huge!

Automobile industry is already changing, but there is still a lot of potential to make it greener.

#48 Why do I have to give up my youth to fix problems created by your generation?

SolarButterfly met and interviewed Emilie Knapheide from Fridays for Future. She started getting active about climate protection at the age of 19. Fridays for Future is all about climate justice, she explained in this video what that means for her. One of the big successes that they had was to push politicians to agree to push the climate neutrality goals from the original 2050 to 2030, so this region will reach them 20 years earlier.
